A lot of people have been asking me if they can make "Toucats" or Toucan Gryphons. And I'm all for it! I don't own the species! Gryphons are really just feline bodies and avian heads (ect...). I can't own something that's been around for so long! Plus there are loads of toucan gryphons already out there now.

I want to encourage people to create their own characters and not have to worry about infringing upon me, because they aren't - if they're creating a toucan gryphon.

What I am worried about is that some people will make Keel-Billed Toucans and Cheetah mixes - basically recreating Tango. I don't have a "hold" on those two species being combined, but I do like how unique Tango is and I don't want him to lose that quality.

Is there some way that I can both encourage people to make gryphons yet discourage them of recreating Tango? Is that even possible or ethical?

ita hard to be unique in this day and age of millions and zillions of OCs :3 I see where you are coming from and provided the design isn't 100% spot for spot your character there isn't much you can do.
When I was re-designing my wolf persona to be hybridized with a bear (grey wolfXGrizzly bear) I came up against the popular wall that was goldenwolf, lots of people were going to think I copied her or did it because of -her- popularity and be lost in her shadow because she did it first. For that very reason I made my version as different from hers (as far as anatomy went) as I could. Hopefully people will be respectful and more creative of yours as well. ^^

I guess it's good that I'm an optimist when it comes to people and how they act, that way I can just go on believe that someone wouldn't intentionally rip off Tango. And I don't think anyone will. =3

Oh my gosh, I feel the same way about my character Nummy. He's not that unique, but a lot of people have been making his species and I'm getting somewhat paranoid that someone out there would be bold enough to use his exact colors or pattern for theirs. I mean, I can't license rainbows. Or dogs. Or dragons. :I it really is a double edged sword.

I myself have thought of asking to make a Toucat (since I absolutely love Tango ;u;) so I'm pretty sure it would be sort of like Griffsnuff's Snuffen- it's a unique enough design to be recognized if it was stolen but since it'd popular, it would WANT to be stolen. NONETHELESS, good luck in your endeavor! *salutes*

The good thing about having a character that looks completely different from it's regular species is that you can be completely unique and it's just totally obvious when people copy it! Which is a good strategy.

I feel the same way. I don't want somebody creating what Faix is either (barn owl, great horned owl and lion into one). It would feel like somebody is trying to redesign Faix, but with different colors and so on, so yes, I know exactly how you feel. I don't know if her species is 100% unique, but I haven't seen anything out there that is exactly like her. The same with Tango, really.

I hope that if people see your creation, that they won't try to copy exactly off of it and make it their own.

I think Faix is pretty safe, being most lions aren't pure black. So I think thats one great thing that will stay with her. =3
I did change a few things about Tango, so that he wouldn't be just a cheetah or just a toucan mashed together. And that'll help him stay unique.

Yeah, I think so too. :D

What did you change with him? :3

His face markings are different than an actual keep billed toucan. His wings have yellow on them, unlike a toucan. His feel have blue scales, online 99% of gryphons, who have front bird feet.

Ohhh, gotcha! I thought you were updating his design and I was going to be like: "noooooo". ;__;

Yeah, I just hope nobody tries to copy him. D:
